Instructables 20 Years Party Decoration

Instructables is turning 20.
And that's 20 years of motivating creators to share their knowledge, processes, and creative techniques.
Over these 20 years, the community has grown into a global sharing community that hosts thousands of projects from dreamers and creatives who share their wisdom.
So to celebrate, I decided to throw an Instructables-themed party, with exclusive decor based on the site's most distinctive features.
So come on, it's time to celebrate!
Supplies

- Scissors.
- X-acto.
- Glue.
- Tape.
- Black eva Foam or paper.
- 3 inch Aluminium Air Duct
- Gold Metallic spray paint
- 3 Gold Foil Round Cake Circles boards.
- 7 inch Gold Paper Party Plates
- 7 inch Silver Paper Party Plates
- 7 inch Red Metallic Paper Party Plates
- 9 inch Gold Solid Square Dessert Plates
- 4 Milk powder tin cans
- Yellow balloons
- Red balloons
- 2 Gold Foil Fringe Backdrop Curtains
- 1 Clear Plastic Ornament Ball
- Red Glitter
- Birthday Cake Candles
- a Table.
Square Golden Plates

The first thing to do is choose your preferred wall. Remember to calculate approximately 2 to 3 meters, as this is where you'll place the decorations. Also, consider the size of the table and the number of guests.
Start by selecting the square gold plates and place at least one piece of masking tape behind them. Remove some of the adhesive by wiping it with a cloth to avoid ruining the wall.
Wall Set Up Head and Chest

To create the robot's shape, we'll need 24 gold plates.
We'll start with its head, which will consist of 9 square plates arranged in 3 rows of 3 plates (3x3).
And the chest will be made with 15 plates, 3 rows of 5 plates (3x5) each, for a total of 24 plates.
Wall Set Up Eyes

Now we continue with the robot's face. It consists of two eyes, a unibrow, and its expressive mouth.
For the eyes, we'll use the red metal plates, but as we already know, they come in two different sizes. For one, we'll use the standard-sized plates, and for the other, we'll cut the center section separately.
Wall Set Up Eyes Size

From the edge of the plate we separated, we'll create a spiral effect, reducing its edge a few centimeters inward.
Then, using glue, attach it to the circular center section cut out earlier.
Face of the Wall Set Up

Now for the eyebrow and the mouth we will use two strips of black EVA foam of the same width but one longer than the other, the longest will be the mouth while the shortest will be the eyebrow.
Wall Set Up Finished

Then we will place on the chest the electronic buttons that give life to Mr. Robot, which will be 3 silver plates located respectively as in the original robot.
Place the table in front of the wall and our previous decoration
Cutting Off the Arms

For the table, I will create a tower where I will place the cake and cupcakes for our guests.
The tower will be inspired by the Instructables robot.
So I'll start making the arms, for which I'll use the aluminum air duct which I'll cut into equal parts with the scalpel and then it will be painted with gold paint to fit our decoration.
Ready to Paint

After cutting them, they're ready to paint. Place them on a piece of stiff wire and Stretch them out as much as possible so the paint covers the entire piece. Remember to paint them outdoors to avoid respiratory problems.
Paintinf Arms

After mounting the air duct over the cable, shake the spray can and spray repeatedly from a distance of at least 30 cm. Apply at least two coats to cover all areas and let it air dry for at least 24 hours.
Painting Body

Do the same with the aluminum cans of powdered milk on a stable base, turning them 360 degrees and applying short bursts at a distance of at least 20 cm, paint one by one. and let it air dry for at least 24 hours.
Body Tower

For the robot body use the 3 Gold Foil Round Cake Circles boards.
To form the tower we will use two cans of powdered milk as legs and 2 more that will be the waist and chest of the tower.
Robot Arms Installation

After forming the tower, glue the previously painted arms to the left and right sides of the upper circular tray.
Test Setup

We're already halfway through, so I added some plates to the table and some text made up of extra letters, which you'll find at the end of this project. This is to test how to arrange everything, guided by the robot on the wall.
Robot Hands

Let's continue with the Mr. Robot's hands.
For that, I used one of the silver plates and by making the circular cuts indicated in the images, I managed to get that classic factory robot hand shape.
Balloons

But what's a party without balloons?
Specifically for this yellow and cheerful celebration, I decided to alternate the balloons in the color of the robot's body and its eyes, so I inflated balloons of both colors, yellow and red, and the idea is to place them alternately on the ceiling or wherever you can think of. only use the necessary balloons.
Balloons Helium Effect

My idea was to make the balloons look like they were floating, normally we would use helium for that but finding it in my city is a bit complicated, so I used tape, making a bow and gluing the balloons with pressure to the ceiling, the trick is to first adhere a square of tape directly to the balloon and then place the bow on top of the already glued square.
Gold Backdrop

Now cover the edge of the table with the foil curtain with gold-backed birthday decorations. By gluing strips of ribbon to the edge of the table, this will make it look a little more elegant.
I also left some balloons on the floor so the guests' children could have fun and take some home.
Cupcakes

I am not a good cook but my aunt has a bakery and she helped me by cooking some cupcakes for the guests, to fill Mr. Robot's tower, I decided to use the basic colors of the robot once again: red and yellow, I distributed the cupcakes in the tower to fill the body of the tower, leaving the red ones as representing the buttons and the yellow ones as the rest of the body
Cake

In addition to the cupcakes, my aunt helped me make the cake. In this case, you'll need an undecorated yellow cake to represent the head. (We chose the passion fruit flavor.)
Once your cake is ready, simply place it on the top shelf of the tower.
Crystal Ears

Now we'll have to add the final details to our robot tower: its eyes, mouth, eyebrows, and ears.
For the ears, we'll use a Clear Plastic Ornament Ball, which we'll split into two for each ear (A and B sides). Then, remove the conector ring with a cutter.
Red Ears

But are the ears red? Of course, we'll have to color them. So, use the glue to completely cover the acrylic piece. Then, quickly before the glue dries, apply the red glitter to the piece. Spread it slowly and carefully. Then, shake the piece onto paper and repeat the process with the remaining glitter until it's completely covered.
Let it dry for at least 24 hours before placing it on the cake to prevent the glitter from coming off and sticking to the cake. Remember to be careful with food.
Robot Ears

Place the ears on each side of the cake carefully so as not to ruin the cream
Robot Face

Time to bring our tower to life, or at least a familiar face.
According to the face templates, cut the eyes from the metallic red plate and the eyebrow and mouth from black EVA foam.
(In step 25 you will find the stickers page, on that page you will find some templates for Mr. Robot's face, of course the measurements may vary depending on the size of your cake.)
Installation

Carefully position the face pieces so as not to ruin the cream.
Stickers and Numbers

As a final touch, I got some perfect candles for the cake, and I decided to illustrate some stickers as a gift for the guests inspired by the face of Mr. Robo, with some expressions that remind me a lot of moments of creation, also a sign that later you will discover where it will be located.
Cut and Distribute

Finally, to finish setting up the table, cut out the printed stickers and leave them where your guests can grab them as souvenirs. Remember to print them on glossy adhesive paper.
You can also adjust the robot tower's arms to your liking (due to the aluminum air ducts) and arrange the plates and other snacks however you like.
20 Years

Now is the time to light the candles and make a wish,
keep it secret and blow out all of the candles.
Extra Projects

Over the years I have developed quite a few projects here on Instructables, and in each project I have learned many new things, so as a tribute and in celebration of the 20 years I decided to include 2 of my past projects that I have developed during these 7 years that I have been part of this amazing community, in my opinion these 2 projects complement the party decoration, these are optional, although if you wish to include them I leave the links so you can have fun making them:
>>>> The Instructables Retrobot
>>>> 3D Ambigram Decoration
Mini Reels

I couldn't miss out on recording a few short reels for your review.
Here you can see the overall decor in detail. I hope you like them.
And What Comes Next?

Now all that's left is to celebrate and congratulate Instructables for these 20 years of growth, knowledge, and opportunities.
And what do you think the future holds for this creative community? Let me know in your comments.
🥂🍾 Here's to another 20 years of creating 🥳🙌
Thanks 4 Watch.
