- Black Paint
- Green Cellophane (link: https://a.co/d/ancJzEc)
- Mini bluetooth speaker (optional, link: https://a.co/d/bS3bQe1)
- Extra cardboard (for the mouth of the creeper)
- Pencil
- Hot glue sticks
- Hot glue gun
- Scissors
- X-Acto Knife
- Duct Tape
- Scotch Tape
Sketch the Creeper Face

The first step for creating this creeper cosplay piece is to sketch out where the eyes and the mouth will be placed. To do this, I made an 8 x 8 grid (approximately 1.5 in. x 1 in blocks) on the front side of my creeper head to block out the placement. Lightly trace out the grid with your pencil.
After drawing out the grid, you can begin sketching out the eyes:
- Place the left eye 1 block over and 2 blocks down
- Draw out the left eye (the eye's dimensions are 2 blocks by 2 blocks)
- Move adjacently 2 blocks over and place the right eye (stay consistent with the dimension for the first eye)
When both eyes are blocked out, you can begin sketching out the mouth:
- First, connect both of the eyes with a line (2 blocks wide) so that each end of the line is touching the inner corner on each eye
- On the left side of the line, draw a perpendicular line 1 block down and then another horizontal line 1 block over
- Next, draw a perpendicular line until you hit the end on the box (approximately 3 blocks down)
- Repeat steps 2-3 on the right side of the line
- On the left side, move 1 block in and draw a line 1 block up, 2 blocks over, and 1 block down
Now you have a complete sketch for your creeper face! To make things simpler, looking at a reference photo of a creeper face will be helpful to ensure accuracy.
Form the Face

The next step for this design is to form out the creeper face to add depth and character. The eyes will be extruding in while the mouth will be extruding out.
How to do the eyes:
- Get your X-Acto Knife and carefully cut out where you sketch out the eyes. Be sure to cut all the way through the cardboard so you can see through it
- Cut out 6 pieces of bug screen that are slightly bigger than the eye
- Carefully hot glue together the 6 pieces of bug screen
- Let the hot glue dry
- On the inner side of the box, hot glue the bug screen so that it is covering the eye
- Repeat steps 2-5 for the second eye
How to do the mouth:
- Take a piece of your extra cardboard and sketch out the creeper mouth w/ the same dimensions from step one
- Cut out an additional 4 pieces of 3 in. x 1 in. pieces of cardboard
- On the far left side of the cardboard creeper mouth, hot glue two 3 in. x1 in. piece of cardboard onto the backside of it
- Repeat step 3 on the far right side of the mouth
- Paint the front and sides of the mouth with black paint
- Hot glue the completed mouth onto the sketched area
After you completed those steps, you will have a basic form for your creeper's face!
Create the Head Insert

If we left the inside of our creeper head empty, the hard cardboard would be uncomfortable and the head wouldn't be able to move effectively. To solve this issue, we can add EVA foam on the inside for a more supported structure.
- Cut out a piece of EVA foam (approximately 16.25 in. x 12.25 in. so that it fits snuggly into the box)
- Measure the circumference of your head for an accurate fit
- Cut out a circle in the EVA foam that matches the circumference of your head
- Place your EVA foam into the box so that the bottom of the foam lines up with the top of the eyes
- For extra support, hot glue the sides of the foam to the inside of the box
Now, the creeper head will be sufficiently supported and comfortable to wear around!
Decorate the Creeper Head

This is the step that is really going to make your creeper head stand out from the rest of the costume pieces. In this step you will be coloring the head, adding your LEDs in, and wrapping it up in cellophane.
- Take your green paint and paint all 5 sides (top, front, back, left, and right) of the cardboard box
- Let the paint dry
- Take your LED battery boxes and place in your batteries
- Hot glue the batter box directly underneath the eye of the creeper and feed the LED strip through the eye
- Stick the LEDs all over the front of the box until completely covered
- Any excess LEDs can go on the inside of the box
- Cut out a piece of green cellophane that is the size of the top of the creeper's head
- Tape the cellophane down onto the top side of the box
- Take the green cellophane and wrap it around the 4 sides of the cardboard box (front, back, and both sides)
- Cut the cellophane and tape it down, leaving excess on the top
- Cut each corner of the excess cellophane on the top and fold it down
- Tape down the excess cellophane onto the top of the box to completely wrap it
And just like that, you finished decorating the creeper head!
Add in Your Speaker (OPTIONAL)

To bring your costume piece to the next level, you can add in a mini Bluetooth speaker and input the creeper explosion noise onto your phone.
- Take your Bluetooth speaker and connect it to your device
- Place the speaker in between the foam and the inside of the cardboard box
- Download a recording of a creeper explosion sound (can be found on youtube)
Now your costume can light up and make the noises like a real Minecraft creeper!
