MYROCHESS
We found playing regular chess boring. So, we decided to come up with our own game.
Supplies
We used our imagination, a standard chess set, checkers, and a chessboard.
Rules of the Game
- The starting position is as shown in the diagram.
- Pieces for each color:
- 16 standard chess pieces
- 8 checkers
- Played by two players.
- Movement Rules
- A player's turn consists of two mandatory actions:
- Moving a chess piece (any chess piece except a pawn).
- Moving a checker or a pawn. This move is mandatory if possible; if not possible, this part of the turn is skipped.
- All pieces move according to standard chess and checkers rules, with a few exceptions:
- A checker cannot capture backwards.
- A king (in checkers) can capture and move just as in standard checkers.
- If a checker or pawn reaches the furthest rank (the 8th rank for White, the 1st rank for Black), it must be promoted to another piece of the player's choice:
- A checker is promoted to a king (in checkers).
- A pawn may be promoted to a Queen, Rook, Bishop, or Knight. The choice is not limited to pieces that have already been captured.
- A pawn cannot remain a pawn.
- After promotion, the piece cannot move in its new capacity during the same turn. For example, if a pawn is promoted to a Queen, it cannot immediately make a move as a Queen within that same turn. Similarly, if a checker is promoted to a king (in checkers), it cannot move as a king during that same turn.
- The winner is the player who checkmates the opponent's King, according to standard chess rules.
Creation
This game is extremely simple to make😀.
You need a chess set and a checkers set.
When creating the game, we followed the principle: “A new game doesn’t have to be completely novel; it should be based on games that users are already familiar with.”
Designation of Figures and Recording of Moves
How to record progress.
In general, the course entry looks like this: figure letter + assignment field.
An example of a pawn move: e4 (the pawn went to the e4 square).
An example of a piece move: Nf5 (the bishop went to the f5 square) or Kf3 (the knight went to the f3 square).
Taking: is indicated by the sign x (or a colon :), for example: exd5 (pawn from line "e" beats on d5) or Kxf7 (knight beats on f7).
Casting:
Short score — 0-0
Long casting — 0-0-0
Checkmate:
Chess is indicated by the sign + (for example, Хh5+)
Checkmate is denoted by # (for example, Хxf7#)
Additional symbols and game total
Estimates of moves: ! (good move), ? (bad move), !? (interesting move), ?! (dubious move).
The result of the game: is recorded at the end:
1–0 — victory for white
0–1 — Black wins
½–½ is a draw
