Mad Hatter Christmas Hat

I love to build with cardboard so I made a Christmas Mad Hatter Hat, because who doesn't love big and fancy hats. I even added a secret storage spot, hidden behind the big button, in case you need to carry anything around, like snacks, which are my favorite. The structure of the hat is made from cardboard and then covered with fabric, which includes a large 3d printed button and other accessories.
Supplies

-cardboard
-hot glue sticks and hot glue gun
-scissors/x-acto knife/box cutter
-pencil/marker
-fabric of choice
-large 3d printed button
-needle and thread
-duct tape
-other hat accessories of choice (I used Berry leaves and bow)

- I cut out a large circle and a smaller circle. The larger circle will be the top of the hat and the small circle will be the bottom of the hat, or where your head will be. I then cut out 1 inch strips of cardboard, about a dozen (more depending on the size of the hat desired).
- I laid the larger circle on the ground and then, using the duct tape, connected the smaller circle to the larger one, by taping the 1 inch strips to the two circles.
- Continue putting strips around, and add more cardboard on the inside to stabilize the hat.
- If you want a secret storage spot, place a medium size cardboard circle inside and add more support strips to hold it up and secure it to the top and bottom.
- On the smaller circle, make sure to cut a hole big enough for your head.

Using hot glue, I covered entire hat with my choice of colored fabric, including the secret storage spot. You can tuck and glue the fabric inside the head hole so it looks nicely all around. You can even wrap the fabric at a slant to give your hat some fun character. Then you cut the fabric out of the secret spot and use hot glue to glue the edges nicely.

- I 3d printed a large button.
- Using another fabric color of my choice, I cut the strip about 5 inches wide, and long enough to go around the entire hat, where it will be place to cover the secret hole.
- I sewed the button on one end and cut a hole big enough on the other end for the button hole. Be sure to sew along the edges of the hole so it doesn't tear when putting the button in.

Using more hot glue, glue the end of your colored fabric, where the button is, right next to the secret spot. Continue wrapping the fabric around the hat, while hot gluing it to the hat. This will keep it in place. Glue it all the way around until you get to the other side of the secret spot. Don't glue your fabric around the secret spot, when you button the button, the spot should be hidden.

Finally, you can glue your extra accessories. I chose add some holiday berry stems and a bow. This hat can be made to fit any fun party or holiday by doing fun colors and accessories.
