Magical Broomstick Birthday Goodie Bags

We are bringing a touch of Hogwarts magic to the Instructable Robots 20th birthday with some enchanting broomstick goodie bags. Perfect for little wizards and witches of the maker world, these bags are populated with party favors and wrapped with an inkling of imagination.
Supplies
- Brown paper lunch bags
- Brown marker
- Chopsticks
- Hot glue gun
- Beads & faux gems
- Brown spray paint (two or more shades for texture)
- String or twine
- Assorted treats (we used a juice box, rice cracker cookie, homemade sugar cookie, and a poppy seed cookie)
Make the Wand

- Take a chopstick as your base.
- Use hot glue to attach beads and faux gems to the top end.
- Add lots of hot glue ridges along the chopstick to create a wood grain effect.
- Once dry, spray paint several thin layers on the wand in two shades of brown for a more realistic wooden look.
Now you’ve got a wands worthy of Ollivanders.
Prepare the Bag

- Use a brown marker to draw allot of lines from the bottom of the bag to the top, on all exterior sides of the bag.
This will soon be both, a bag of holding and, your broom bristles.
Homemade Sugar Cookie Recipe

These cookies were made fresh for our broom bags.
Ingredients:
- 2 ¾ cups (330 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon (5 g) baking soda
- ½ teaspoon (2 g) baking powder
- 1 cup (227 g) butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups (300 g) white sugar
- 1 large egg (50 g)
- 1 teaspoon (5 mL ) vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F).
- Beat sugar, butter, egg, and vanilla together in a bowl.
- Mix flour, baking soda, and baking powder in another bowl.
- Gradually add dry mix into the wet mix.
- Roll dough into small balls (25ish g each) and place on baking sheet.
- Bake 8 to 10 minutes until edges are golden.
- Cool and decorate with icing to make it more magical.
Wrap the Cookie With Magic

- Place a sugar cookie on a piece of paper towel for protection and future crumb cleanup.
- Wrap it up neatly and tie with a piece of string tokeep it closed.
- Use your homemade wand to magically move the cookie into the bag.
Fill the Bag

- Add the goodies to the bag; we added a juice box, rice cracker cookie, wrapped sugar cookie, and poppy seed cookie inside the bag.
- Place the wand so it sticks 1/4 in, 3/4 out of the bag; this is the broom handle.
- Tie the bag closed around the wand with string, so the bag resembles the broom’s bristles with the wand as the broom handle.
