Make Iron Man Launcher at Your Home

Hey there, In this Instructables i will show you how to make Iron Man Launcher at Your Home using cardboard and other materials.
This is a fandom project! It means I'm a very big fan of spiderman and i wanted to make some cool stuff that i can wear and show it around to my friends.
To begin with let me tell you how this project works, This is a motion activated launcher and you can launch the paper slingers at the wave of your hand.
If you are a fan of iron man then it is a must do project, and the best part is i have given you all the instructions to make this and even a beginner can understand the steps.
We are using popsicle sticks and a simple mechanism to run this launcher.
This uses a elastic band and paper barrels, With some simple mechanisms we are releasing the energy of elastic band.
To be clear we are pulling the elastic band first and locking the paper with some obstacle and when the servo is activated we are removing the obstacle part.
This servo is controlled by Arduino nano and IR sensor, This IR sensor will be activated when you wave the hand or any obstacle Infront of it.
I have also given a working video at the end of this instructables, Make sure to check it since it has all the steps of build and working video.

Lifting Mechanism

The main mechanism of this project lies in this part and building this not a rocket science.
Popsicle sticks will suit best for this purpose, i made 3 holes at the 3 parts on the popsicle stick and you can see this.
To make this work as a hinge to the center part of hole i inserted filament and added a little heat and sealed the edges.
Don't apply too much in creating the seal for the joining area, The joint needs a small space between them and this will allow for smooth movement.
Later when you have this in the shape of X we can build a base in which this can rest.
I connected them using superglue and to the sides i added popsicle sticks again, Now to this i added the X and sealed the joins with PLA filament.
We also need to add extra hinges to all the leftover sides of edges, and then the PLA filament is added again that acts as a hinge.
Now the Lift mechanism is ready and we need to automate the lifting and lowering mechanism.
The lifting method is done when the servo is pushed and to retract the mechanism we are again using the servo that will lower the mechanism.
Few may think why not use the elastic band, i suggest not to use since it will add more tension to the mechanism.
This will finish our lifting mechanism and we will add more supports to this to make the mechanism work more smoothly.
You can add a base to this mechanism, Just add few drops of hot glue to the cardboard and place this and give some dry to get adhered well.
Design and Printing

The design for this launcher is given below, You can just download the STL and import it to the slicer, Usually most of them use ultimaker cura to slice the model.
For the settings you can refer the images of the model that i have given here in this step.
There are total of 3 parts, and all of them do not need any rafts or supports at the time of printing.
Refer the settings that i have given when you are slicing the model and export the model.
I chose the combination of yellow and black at the time of 3d printing, the choice of color is yours.
After you have all the 3d printed parts ready, we can just take of the model from the print bed and use the models ready.
There is no post processing required, the models are ready for using.
Connect the micro servo to the 3d printed holder, connect gear to the shaft and in the end connect the slider.
Manually push the slider back and forth to check for the working, Now we can add the control mechanism using electronics and in the next step we can see how.
Circuit and Codes

Ir sensor is connect to these pins on the nano board
The IR sensor comes with 3 pins.
Gnd, Vcc and Out, Here the Gnd and Vcc are connected to Ground and 3v pins on the nano
The Signal pin is connected to D2 pin of the nano
The Servo has 3 pins
Gnd, Vcc and signal
Gnd and Vcc are connected to ground and 5v pin on the nano whereas the signal is connected to D3 pin on the nano
After these connections are complete, Connect nano board to computer using the USB cable and open Arduino IDE
Copy and paste the below program and select the proper type of board and port type and click on upload button.
Now simply test the circuit and by this way you can also calibrate the servo and the IR sensor.
Later we can implement the servo mechanism to this project directly by connecting the slider part with the lifting and lowering part.
You can also replace this open circuit with a simple PCB, Complete your electronic projects in the best way from PCBWay

To make it safe for using keeping this topic in mind i used paper everywhere, i started by rolling the papers to multiple layers and then gluing them and allowing it to dry completely.
Here first we need to make supporting parts that move along with the mechanism for this part i will use 4 different sizes of paper and depending on the size of yours you can adjust it.
Here one thing that you need to take care of is, Pre cut all the paper and then start to glue them one after the other, I will use A4 sheet and this will work best for this project.
secure the ends with paper glue and allow to dry, i recommend not to use hot glue here.
Now at the top part place the actual slinger part and i suggest to add the elastic band and sealing with glue before putting it to use.
Finally seal all the sides with cut pieces of cardboard and now we are good to go.
Color the frame with the standard colors like i uses, i used red and silver and these colors suit this project.
Check the servo multiple times for its working and if you need any minor adjustments you can do that too.
Final Workings

This is the final step of the project, I will be powering this up using a power bank you can also use battery source to power this up the choice is yours.
If you want to wear this all you have to do is keep this on your hand and tie the paper bands around your hand and adjust the fit accordingly.
The bands are adjustable and for a proper grip i used two bands.
Before you wear this on your wrist, Adjust the elastic band by pulling it back, locking the paper obstacle and you can insert paper tubes that are slinging part.
Now connect USB to nano board, and when the IR sensor senses some obstacles the servo slider pushes the lift mechanism and when the pressure is applied on obstacle part the paper slings out.
This is all about iron man launcher, If you have any questions ask me in the comments.
Let me know which is your favorite part, and don't forget to post your make in the i made it section, Thanks and have a great day
