Make a Popsicle Stick Shutter Lamp

Make a simple and unique lamp from popsicle sticks!

Supplies:
1 light bulb, sockect and chord from an old lamp
36 Popsicle sticks
Pen
Hot glue gun
Ruler
Scissors

Line up popsicle sticks against a straight edge and draw a line intersecting the curve on the sticks.  Cut the sticks, rotate and repeat for the other side.

Make a right angle triangle glueing three stick together lengthwise. 

Make four of these.

Now time to make the side panels, or the shutters!

First line up two popsicle sticks parallel to eachother.

Then break up some of the round parts left over from cutting into small pieces.

Glue one piece to the bottom of each popsicle stick.

Then lay a line of glue along  the length of the stick the width of a popsicle stick.

Lay a popsicle stick across the glue.

Repeat all the way up using six sticks spaced out evenly.

Make four of these.

For this step you will need the four shutter pieces and four corner pieces you have made so far.

First lay a line of glue along of one of the bases of the corner pieces and line up and attach  to the edge of one of the shutter pieces.

Lay glue on the still exposed base and attach another shutter piece, making and L shape

Repeat these steps making a second L piece

Attach the remaining corner pieces and glue  along the two remaining bases and attach the two L pieces together

Now take two of the remaining sticks, and cut triangular notches  in the middle.

Next,  snug the two trianglular portions of the sticks against the round base of the lightbulb fixture, cut two pieces of sticks to span across the two sticks. Glue to create a stable base.

Finally glue the light bulb holder you have just made inside the shutter.

Now plug your light in and enjoy the relaxing glow and cool light pattern!
