Miter Lock
The Miter Lock’s historical significance originates with its creator, Leonardo Da Vinci. This genius created many brilliant inventions, the Miter Lock among them. The Miter lock is used in many canals today, such as the Panama Canal. It uses the natural flowing of the water to its advantage. The gate is a wedge, with the two sides of the wedge as the two doors of the gate. The wedge gets naturally closed by the flow of water, and this causes the water to be blocked. The water rises, and therefore forces the gate to close further. The gate is opened either by a hydraulic piston or an electric motor.
