A completely hand made model city with a light sensing component to turn lights on or off within the city.

Supplies

1/8'' plywood, laser cutter, PLA, PrusaMK4s, Arduino microprocessor, LDR, LED lights, wires, respective resistors for LDR and LED's.

2 Base boards that contained a mountain design along the edge. They were both made in blender utilizing 3 modifiers: Subdivision, Vertex Weight Proximity, and Displace. A texture was added to the displace modifier; Clouds. An extrusion was required in order for it to properly print. The mini wooden buildings and the really large tower were made in Fusion. With press fit joints and a ceiling that would fit. Both were entirely parameterized. The white mini buildings were also 3d printed with white PLA. All were made without modifiers except for the tall rectangular one, which used a wireframe modifier.

Printed the mountains via prusaslicer software. The laser cut buildings we're all laser cut into pieces that were fit together.

Putting It All Together

On one of the mountain bases, I put the buildings together via double sided tape placed onto the base. The other base I put the Arduino. Once the buildings were down I put the wiring and breadboard together. The code is attached. I placed the LDR sensor on the top of the large tower and placed 3 LED's within the city. The lights turn on when the light is dim enough (nighttime), and off when it's "daytime".
