this was created for a specific purpose. I needed a narrow step stool for our bathroom. It also had to be three year old proof.

I wanted this to be simple but with a twist. making the legs round seemed to be both. There are 9 that are 1 1/2" diameter by 6 1/2", 14 1/2", & 22 1/2". 3 of each. all of these were done with 2X4 ripped in half. I used scrap stuff but one stud new would make all of them plus the tiered leg. If you don't have 1X4, glue two 2X4's.

this will be the hinge for the smaller steps
I start by gluing a 2 X4 and two 3/4"X4" together
The bottom leg is 6 1/2" tall and 3" diameter
the middle leg is 8" and 2 1/4" diameter
the top leg is 8" tall and1 1/2" diameter
The lathe handles this pretty good but it is a slow and tedious job taking off all of this wood.

I just used some scrap 3/4" plywood. If I had known how cool this was going to turn out I probably would have used cabinet grade. oh well
First piece final measurement is 12"X23"
second step final measurement is 9 1/2"X20 1/2"
Third step final measurement is 7X17 3/4"
And the bottom board is 12X23"
I learned the hard way to get my measurements from the top step down. If you go from bottom up like I did, there may be multiple cuts to make everything fit. When I connected the legs to the tread I used 2" coarse screws and pre drilled with an 1/8" pilot bit

Once I put the steps in, I realized there was a need to trim the corners to allow a smooth transition.

This step is just to reiterate the trimming for the two moveable steps. I also had to make the bottom puzzle piece easy to fit and slide. It did take a little rounding on each outside corner. I didn't take any pics but once everything fit and moved well, I disassembled and sanded with 220 grit paper

This is where the stool is needed. A narrow bathroom with a high sink. It fits and moves smooth.

Picked out the paint at Lowe's. while waiting found a template for a sweet mallot. Definitely gonna need one of these. And then two coats later and some dry time. A interesting little stool fit for a princess.
