Necronomicon Couplet on Plywood

I saw these embossed skirting strips at the craft store and wondered, if these could be used to make a really easy picture frame. Initially I wanted to make a lino print of the couplet. After spending quite some time, and was nearly done, I realized that I did not flip over the template, so that - of course - the print would be mirrored. After a short cursing I decided to do another inkjet print on a sheet of thin plywood.

Thins I used for this project:

• Plywood
• Skirting strips
• Wood glue
• Black paint
• Grey paint
• Spray lacquer
• Picture hook
• Saw
• Hotglue

At first I measured the dimensions that the picture should be and began to saw these skirting strips to length with a 45° angle at the end. I wanted the inside edges to be 18 cm x 12 cm. After sawing those 4 strips I sanded the edges a little bit and glued them together with wood glue and let them dry for a couple of hours. I just took black paint for the finish with a little bit of dry brushing with grey paint.

As in my other frame project I printed on a sheet of transfer paper so that I can take it from the printer and with the ink still wet, pressing it onto the plywood. Super easy. After that I had to trim the edges of the plywood a little bit to make it fit onto the backside of the frame.

In a final step I coated the whole frame with spray lacquer and glued a hook to its backside. Of course there are for sure more professional methods in making a decoration like this but I think this worked out nice.
