No-Solder Battery Interrupter

A battery interrupter is used to make a toy (or other battery-powered device) switch-accessible. The battery interrupter is placed in the battery tray either between two batteries or between a battery and the electrical contact. A switch (any type of switch with a 1/8-inch mono plug can be used) is plugged into the jack. When the switch is activated, the toy will operate.

Use the battery as a guide to cut out a piece of card stock. If the card stock is much bigger than the battery then it won't fit in the battery tray.

Use the battery as a guide to cut two pieces of copper foil tape. You want each piece of tape to be slightly smaller than the piece of card stock.

Place one wire from the switch jack (color doesn't matter) on the card stock and attach it with one piece of copper foil tape.

Flip the card stock over and use the other piece of copper foil tape to attach the other wire from the jack to the card stock.

Important:

  1. The copper foil tape cannot extend over the edge of the card stock. You want to see a tiny bit of card stock all around the copper foil tape.
  2. One wire needs to be on each side of the card stock.
