Paracord Hornet Weave

There are a lot of paracord weaves for bracelet or keychain. The most well known is Cobra Weave which is solid and stylish. Having some cords around I sat down and start twisting them to see what kind of simple pattern I could get. This is it. Then I searched the net with the terms "paracord weaves" to get its name but I got nothing. The closest pattern is Fishtail. Well, my back side is fishtail, but the front side is simply flat lines.

Is it because of this pattern is so simple? Yes it is simple. And yes it is not interesting when you use one color cord. But when you mix two colors in it, the fun arises.

I always love a simple running loop (or also known as noose). Then I loop the loop. Add another loop. And again and again and here we are... then I just called it The Hornet Weave.

Join two colors of cords as one. Simply burn and stick with a lighter or you can do the hard way by Wink79. I am going to hide the joint in my weaves anyway.

This is my favorite knot for I love watching the cartoon cowboys spinning their lasso to catch horses since I was a kid :D

• Put the dark cord (I will call this black) on the left and the bright cord (I will call this orange) on the right.
• Turn the orange in front of the black and goes to the back of black and itself, at the joint or a little above it.
• Turn the orange down through the loop (making an overhand knot).
• Tighten the loop to cover the joint.

• Turn the black from the back of the orange then circle to the front.
• Circles back behind itself (the black) then goes down through it's loop.

If you lay it flat, it will be a figure "eight" (8).

Repeat step #1 for the orange then repeat step #2 for the black and so on.

The only things you need to remember when doing the loops are :

• Orange starts from the front of black.
• Black starts from the back of orange.

When you have done two orange loops and two black loops then you can see the pattern. Flat stripes in front and fishtail at the back. If your fishtail is not well aligned, it means you start the loop from the wrong side, then redo.

My orange cord lasts first because I used some at the beginning as a hanger loop. Well, I slip its end into the black loop so that it is hidden beneath. You might want to burn a little of the orange end before you fasten the last black loop. I also burn the orange a little and stick it to the black tail.

I left the black tail a little. I burnt the end and pressed it flat. Then I cut it triangle, just like the devil's tail. I cut the corner a little round so that it won't hurt myself. While working in the field I can use it to clean my dirty nail :D

So now it is The Hornet With Devil's Tail :D

Start from this simple weave you can then weave the second layer and the third to form the Real Hornet's Tail, just like the Cobra over Cobra to make a King Cobra ^^
