Pen Holder

I wanted to make a pen holder design to show my appreciation towards the lunch ladies as they are dedicated and hardworking. The original pen holder wasn’t very nice and could use a touch up so I decided to make a more functional and stylish pen holder reflecting a clean and modern style look.

By making an upgrade even in the slightest, I hope to enhance the overall environment of our school. I hope by starting and creating this new project that I can bring touch and warmth with professionalism to the lunch area, making it a more inviting space for both staff and students even on the most miniscule scale

In the end of all of this, this project is just to show it’s more than just a pen holder- it’s about showing my gratitude and contributing a positivity towards our school community doing something beneficial in any way possible. I believe that small changes can make a big and lasting impact on the school environment which I’m eager to bring this vision to life

Designing

I first started by thinking of the problem and how I can help solve it. The current lunch ladies pen holder was very old and ineffective. Now I wanted to make a pen holder for them that is not only functional but as well as visually appealing and unique. Then I drafted ideas or ways I can help design this new pen holder for the lunch ladies. I drafted a few ideas coming up with different and new unique designs that will stand out and be different from the rest of the pen holders out there on the market. I tried all new and creative models to make my product stand out and be different from the rest. I wanted my product to stand out on its own. My goal was to blend creativity, functionality, and appreciation into one product

In this step you would want to take your draft from the drawing phase and create a 3D image onto TinkerCAD(any CAD platform is ok TinkerCAD is my preference) next I tried out different size and shapes of the pen holder to see which is best suited for the lunch ladies needs while as being aesthetically pleasing. While you are in CAD I tried out different designs and ideas on the pen holder and came to the conclusion that our school logo was the best design because I ask them which design they would like on the product and they all agreed that the school logo is the best. I decided to make the pen holder magnetic so when I was designing the walls I added a small hole inside the wall so when it was printing you could stop the print add the magnet on it then the printer will cover the magnet so it can have a seamless finish.

With everything already set in motion I added the filament into the 3D printer and started the printing princess. This took up to several hours, depending on the complexity and size of the pen holder. It is very important to monitor the printing as there could be different issues such as warping or filament jams. This step is crucial as any minute changes can have long lasting changes. When the printer was printing the pen holder I stop the print in the middle of the printing and added the magnet inside the walls then started back the print to make it have a flawless finish. After the printing was completed I used tools like tweezers and sandpaper to help clear out any imperfections of the final product

After the print was finished I gived the lunch ladies the finial product and they were very, very happy with the finial design however the scariest part of this process is will it stick to the wall so when I went to test it out with a little nervousness inside of me I took the product and place it on the wall and I let my hand go of it and thankfully it stick onto the wall with a lot of strength so when we added the pens to it the pen holder didn't fall or break. I am very proud of the design and product I made and hope their are many more opportunities for me to grow and expand in the future. I am grateful the lunch ladies enjoyed the gift I gave them for valentines day and they may have gived me a little extra lunch (Don't tell anyone I said this though) Thank you for making it all the way to the end and reading my design
