Pins for Your Bike Pedals With Zip Ties
Since winter is coming up I thought about getting new pedals for my commuter bike, but MTB pedals are uncomfortable in the summer with thin shoes or even barefoot.
I just came up with a solution to increase traction on your pedals: simply zip tie them and use the lock portion of the ties as nubs! This provides better grip in muddy or winter conditions, and it's easy to remove, restoring your pedals to their original state.
Supplies
16 zip ties, 8 per pedal (the white ones are usually tougher)
Tie the Ties
I tied the ties with the nubs on the outer edge to increase the distance between contact points to the shoes.
Cut and Finish
Cut the ties as close as you can, repeat for the other pedal. Done! Took about 2 minutes to make.
If you want you can add more nubs by using more ties, I went simple to begin with to try them out.
My first impressions are that the traction is much better! I'll have to see if the ties will start to hurt the bottom of my feet, in that case I'll switch them out for smaller ties.
