In this Instructable you will learn to change a normal receptacle into a usb-c receptacle, this can get more use out of a certain receptacle to directly plug your phone in without a box. Now you can get more use out of a certain receptacle. This will include testing for power to your receptacle, removing an old receptacle, attaching a new receptacle, inserting the receptacle to the wall, putting your cover plate back on. Make sure you are a competent user, if you are not knowledgeable of the dangers given from an electrical box do NOT attempt this instructable. Also make sure your wires are not live when attempting this instructable.

Locate the receptacle you would like to change and modernize. Use your flat head screwdriver to remove two screws on your cover plate (in some cases one screw). Once the cover plate is removed, grab an electrical tester, (if you are not competent to test your wires, find a competent person to help). If the receptacle is live (has power), locate the correct breaker to the receptacle and turn the breaker off. Once the breaker is off remove the receptacle by removing all screws on the receptacle holding wires to it. Remove wires from underneath screws. These wires should be in a j shape or be in a stick like line.

Prepping the Wires

Prepping your new receptacle, you are going to re use these wires in the old receptacle. The tips of the wires should still be exposed in a j or stick like shape in my case it’s a straight stick. If copper exposed is damaged or blackened cut the tips of the wires with side cutters down to where the plastic covering is. Now use your wire strippers and strip the wires ¾ of an inch from the tip of the wire. Now make a small j shape with your exposed copper

Inserting your usb-c receptacle. Hook your j like shapes around the screws. White wire goes to your silver screws, black wire goes to your gold screws and your green wire or straight copper wire will go to the green screw. Tighten the screws till wire can no longer pull out of the receptacle. Insert the top and bottom screws of your plug into the box in the wall.
