Resin Board

Beautiful Resin Cutting Board or Serving Board.

To begin, you will need to collect some hardwood strips. Different colors bring a good pop to the project.

Patience, patience, patience. This project should not be rushed. Use several wood clamps and strong wood glue to arrange your piece into whatever pattern suits your interest. I chose to go with light and dark, and incorporate a curved piece which will look like a resin river. I also decided to use symmetry.

Now for a temporary enclosed box. This needs to be sealed with duct tape and nailed tight at the corners. Reason? When we pour the resin, leaks should be minimized.

Throw in some sea shells for a beach look. Clamp down the previously clamped pieces of wood, making room in the middle for the resin.

Pouring resin should be completed in stages not to exceed 1/4" depth. If the board is thicker than this, pour the resin in stages, using a heat gun between pours to eliminate air bubbles. This is important.

After letting the first pour dry for several hours, begin the second pour. Pour it right up and even with the top level. Don't worry if a little spills over. We are going to plane it even, then several regressions of sanding from 60 grit to 5000 grit.

For a superb finish, use a nice stain on the wood only. Small supporting legs can be screwed in on the back side to give it even more depth. And you're done!
