Reuse Water

Water shortage is a really huge problem. In the US, we get water whenever we want. That doesn't happen everywhere. Some places barely have enough water for each person to drink. For example, in Central African Republic, there is a huge water shortage. If we could use less water in the US, why don't we give these extra water to the other countries that barely get enough.

There is 2.5% that is freshwater on earth, and most of them are glaciers/ice. Also, 70% or more of the freshwater we have goes to agriculture. The water that goes down the drain go to the sewage, why not use it for a better reason? It would be wonderful if water that goes to agriculture is the water that goes down the drain from sinks, showers, etc. The extra water will go to the places that really need it.

Supplies

Lego toilet, Lego Hose, straws, needle(or something thin and sharp), and plastic wrap

Explaining the Design

My prototype design is about reusing water. Imagine the water from your toilet goes to a reserve so that the next time you water your garden(can be anybody's garden/farm), it will be water from your toilet. The water that goes into the garden might not be 100% clean though, but that is fine because nature is dirty.

Also in the middle of the drain, will be a filter so the drain won't get clogged. You will be able to change out the filter whenever you need to. That is all about my design.

Making the Drainage System

Put one straw into another and in between one of them put plastic wrap. Poke holes into the plastic wrap, that will be the filter. Now you are done with the drainage system

Attaching the Drains

Attach the drain onto the toilet and hose however you like. I attached the straw under the Lego and the hose into the straw.

What If There Is More Than 2 Test Subjects?

Most households definitely have more than a toilet and a garden hose. The solution will be that there will be a tub before the water reaches the garden hose, so that is a place where all the water meet before going into the garden.

How Do I Change Out the Filter?

To change the filter, you disconnect the straws/drain that have the plastic wrap and lift it up to grab all of the filtered stuff, definitely throw it away, add a new filter, and then connect the straws/drain again.

DONE!!

Now I am done with everything: explaining, designing, making, etc. This is a great way to reuse water and help the other places on earth that don't have water, get water. Even if it is 1 drop at a time, it adds up slowly. I had a wonderful time and I hope you did too!
