To see its working, here's the video:

Ring Mouse Video

Unlike a traditional mouse that you see everyday, I decided make it as a wearable, where the scroll wheel acts as a ring around your finger. It turned out well and I use it every now and then. Apart from the scrolling function, all the other functionality has been kept the same.

Supplies

I purchased a regular wireless mouse with its receiver. It costed around $3. You can purchase a similar wireless mouse with a receiver.

In my region, I purchased a Portronics Wireless mouse.

You will now require 3D printed Parts that I have designed.

You can find the 3D Parts below

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7044188

3D Parts:

  1. mouse_finger_adapter.stl
  2. mouse_wheel_gear.stl
  3. ring_gear_main.stl
  4. mouse_wheel_cover_gear.stl
  5. mouse_case.stl
  6. mouse_base_cover.stl
  7. mouse_gripper.stl

NOTE: Parts 5,6,7 are optional and depend on the mouse shape you have purchased.

Unscrew your mouse to view the parts inside.

Usually the screw is placed under the battery section of Your device.

Desolder Required Parts, Extend Wires and Resolder

I need 3 parts from the mouse: The left wheel, right wheel and the mouse wheel encoder.

So I de-solder them first, extend them with wires so it can reach my finger.

The second image shows all the connections.

Now, we start assembling the soldered parts.

Firstly, the mouse_finger_adapter.stl part needs to be attached with the hollow_gear.stl part as shown in the image.

Next, I used hot glue to stick the left click and right click mouse buttons in the space provided in the adapter part.

Next, place the scroll wheel part of the mouse in the space provided in the adapter part as shown in the 4th image.

Then attach the mouse_wheel_cover_gear.stl to the actual mouse wheel given with the mouse. Now the mouse wheel has a rod that is to be inserted to the scroll wheel part as before itself.

You can observe this in the 7th image.

The parts 5,6,7 are with respect to the mouse board/PCB. The sizes differ from product to product, but you can refer my designs to create similar parts for your mouse.

After all these steps, a wire sleeve can be added to hide the shabby wiring.

Finally you can power it with the existing AA battery and insert the receiver to your pc and use the scroll gear on your finger to scroll through the net.

I felt this could be something new to tinker on, and I am pretty happy with how it turned out.

The video attached will provide you a better view of all the assembly steps.
