Rope Moccasins

My child loves fun things on their feet, so I made a pair of child's moccasins completely made out of thin rope.

Supplies

Cut pieces of your thin rope as long as you can feasibly braid. You will need to make lots of braids, so cut a bunch of the same size. once you have at least nine of the same size, take three at a time, knot the ends of them together and braid them together, resulting in three braids. Knot the end of them. Repeat this step as needed.

Once you have three of about the same size braids, braid those smaller braids together to make a larger braid, making sure to knot the beginning and ends of the braids. Repeat this step as needed.

Thread your big needle with more of your thin rope. Using the shoe template, you will stitch your big braids together to form the bottom of your shoe. Take a little from one side of the braid and hook it to a little of the other side. Keep stitching your big braids around each other until you reach the desire size shoe bottom.

Once you are ready to start curving up the sides, you stitch the braids a little differently. Bring the rope needle up through the shoe base and into half of the braid needing to be connected to the rest. This will start to curve the shoe upward. You can go around the entire shoe base a couple times like this to form a curvy shoe shape, with the desired back length for your heel. Once you get the right amount of curve to your shoe, bring a braid strap to your desired location on the shoe and stitch it to both sides.

Using more big braids, go back and forth on the toe part by stitching your big braids to the existing shoe until you fill in almost the entire space.

Stitch the end of the toe together to close it all off.

Then repeat the whole process to complete your second moccasin.
