Short Animation of Star Wars Transport Flying in Front of a Black Hole in Blender

I have created a short animation of a 3D Star Wars transport ship flying in front of a black hole in a space environment. I am still learning Blender and use it mostly as a hobby for things that seem cool to me!

Supplies

I used the following supplies

  1. Computer (Probably one with a better GPU than mine lol)
  2. Blender 4.2.0
  3. Access to videos and free pictures online

Brainstorm and Research

I have always loved Star Wars and space my whole life and always wanted to be in or create a beautiful scene like the ones seen in many movies. I gathered inspiration from these two movies in particular, Interstellar and Star Wars. I then used YouTube to help me in my ambition as I went along.

Shaping Model and Shading

I began by getting my ship model which I was able to find for free on SketchFab. I then placed it in my word l and then followed the tutorial from YouTube. I used a HDRI to set up the starry background that I found here.

Animation

For animating, I kept it very simple as I just wanted a slow fly by past the black hole. I kept the scale of both the ship and the black hole in mind as I animated the created the scene, making the black hole large was definitely something I wanted to happen.

Rendering

I rendered in the cycles render engine, rendering all of the frames as a PNG file before putting them all together in a video editing file and putting all the files together in an image sequence. After some minor tweaking such as fades, I rendered it as an animation to finally complete my project! I am very much new to Blender and don't have lot of experience with post processing or compositing so my project had very little. I am glad this turned out the way it did and am excited to learn more in the future!
