Simple Crochet Beanie!

Hello, this tutorial will show you how to crochet a simple beanie! I am a beginner and this is my first ever crochet project that hasn't been a scarf. If I can do it, so can you! This beanie took around four hours total to complete. I tend to have a slow hand, but once you get into the groove of the motions, you can probably do it faster than me!
Supplies

You will only need a couple of things to make this hat:
- Yarn (Around 100 grams = typically 1 skein. The photo attached is about how much I used for this hat!)
- Crochet Hook (The one I will be using is 5mm)
- Scissors
- Weaving Needle (Not needed, I didn't use mine. But it will make it easier when you are closing up the top of the hat.)
- Lots of Patience!
Make Your Slipknot

For the first part of any project, you have to make a slipknot to attach to your hook.
The best way I would describe how to do this is to make a loop, place your yarn strand at the back of the loop then use your fingers to pull the strand through. Gently tighten to form a knot. Then, place your knot on the hook and pull it to tighten.
Please don't do it super tight, because you must pull your hook through this loop in the next step.

Next, you will put the yarn over your hook and pull through the loop. Repeat this around 50 times. This will be the height of your hat. I wanted to make mine fairly long because I wanted a big brim, but it's up to personal preference. If you have a smaller head, definitely do less.

Making the Rows!

Time for the most essential part: crocheting the rows that will become your beanie. Do a row of half-double crochets, and when you reach the end, slip-stitch the last 5 rows.
How to Do a Half-double Crochet
- Yarn over
- Insert the hook under the top loops of the next stitch
- Yarn over, and pull the yarn through the stitch to draw up a loop
- There should now be three loops on the hook
- Yarn over, and pull the yarn through all three loops on the hook!

Repeat!

Keep repeating this motion until it is long enough to wrap around your head.
Making the Hat Shape

Slip-stitch the sides together, so it resembles a cylinder. Tie off ends and cut off most of the excess yarn.
Closing the Top

Weave strand of yarn in and out of the holes at the top, then pull to close in the circle. Really, you should be using a weaving needle, but I forgot mine. Fingers work fine too! Double knot to secure the piece and cut excess yarn strands.

Finishing Your Piece

Turn the project inside out to hide any knots and fold the bottom to make a brim! Work is complete!
