This is a fun and simple project you can do as a class. You can make this project with any color you want, or just use the colors of the rainbow like I did. This is a fun art project, and it can also be an example of how different liquids disperse in other liquids.

Supplies

For this project you will need:

  1. white glue
  2. food coloring
  3. a lid (a yogurt lid works well)
  4. a toothpick or skewer
  5. yarn of any color
  6. a hole puncher

Pouring the Glue

For this step you will need:

  1. the glue
  2. the lid

Set the lid on a flat surface and pour enough glue into the lid to form a thin layer in the lid.

For this step you will need:

  1. the lid with glue from step 1
  2. the food coloring
  3. more glue
  4. a bottle lid
  5. skewer

Put one drop of each color of food coloring in different places on the glue. If you want a color that you don't have you can use the color combination chart above (see picture), to make the color you want. After you have put the colors on the glue use the skewer to spread the colors. Do not spread the colors too much or it won't look that good when it dries. Let this dry for 12-24 hours on a flat surface where no one will accidently touch or bump it.

Here is another way you can do it but when it dries the colors mix a lot so the colors won't be as distinctive as the other way.

Drip a few drops of food coloring into the center of the glue from step 1. Then put some glue in the center of the drops of food coloring to make a ring. Continue this process until you have used all the colors you want, but be careful not to put so much glue that it overflows. Use the skewer to make any design you want but don't make a complicated design because the colors will spread out and mix some as they dry. Let this dry for 1-2 days on a flat surface where no one will accidently touch or bump it.

Removing the Suncatcher From the Lid

Now that the glue is dry it is time to remove the suncatcher from the lid. Carefully peel the suncatcher from the lid and try not to tear it.

Attaching the Yarn to the Suncatcher

For this step you will need:

  1. the suncatcher
  2. the hole puncher
  3. the yarn

Use the hole puncher and punch a hole in the suncatcher. Now get a piece of yarn that is about two feet long. Draw the string through the hole you punched in the sun catcher and tie it at the end.

Using the Suncatcher

Hang up the suncatcher in any window where the sun comes through, that way you can enjoy seeing it throughout the day.
