Spin the Top Hat Game

I found the Hats Instructable to be an interesting challenge! I wanted to make mini top hats out of cardboard and construction paper. But what could I do with them that would be interesting and fun? I thought of the Spin The Bottle game. Maybe I could make the center hat spin, and hide prizes or fortunes under each of the surrounding hats. I had my idea and here is how you can make it!
Supplies

card board box
assorted colors of construction paper
scissors
glue
Small pad of paper
hole punch
marble
chopstick
4-inch round cutter
pen
ruler
garden clipper
box cutter
cup with a 2 1/2-inch diameter
curved nail scissors
scotch tape
round cutting board
Cut the Box

Use the box cutter to carefully cut the box along the fold lines.
Draw Circles

Using the 4-inch round cutter, draw 11 circles on pieces of cardboard.
Add Smaller Circles

Center the cup onto 10 of the 11 drawn circles. Use the pen to draw 2 1/2-inch diameter circles.
Cut Them Out

Using the large scissors, cut out the 11 large circles. Use the curved nail scissors to cut out the 10 smaller inner circles. Save one small circle for the top of the spinning hat.
Add the Marble

Squirt glue into the center of the under side of the remaining large circle. Add the marble to the glue. Allow to dry completely. This forms the bottom of the spinning hat.
Separate the Cardboard

Carefully pull one side off of pieces of cardboard flaps. Measure and cut cardboard to make 11 (9 1/2-inch x 3-inch) pieces.
Cut the Chopstick

Measure 2-inches from the pointed end of the chopstick. Use the garden clipper to make a straight cut across.
Cut the Construction Paper

Choose 5 colors of construction paper plus black for the 11 hats. Draw 2 (4-inch) circles on each color plus one circle on the black paper. Also, cut 2 strips (9 1/2-inches x 3-inches) of each color for the sides of the hats. Cut 1 strip, same size, of black paper.
Make and Cut Inner Circles

Center the cup on each construction paper circle. Draw 2 1/2–inch circles. Carefully cut each small circle out and save the circles. The center circles will be the top of the hats.
Add Colored Circles

Lay out the cardboard circles. Drizzle a little glue on each circle. Top each with a colored circle. Press gently. Allow to dry.
Make the Spinner Top

Drizzle glue onto the top of the small cardboard circle. Top with the small black circle and press gently. Use the small scissors to make and dig a hole halfway into the cardboard. Add a dab of glue to the hole. Press the piece of chopstick into the hole. Be sure that it dries straight. Allow to dry.
Make Hat Sides

Roll each strip of cardboard, joining each end. Use pieces of tape to hold it together.
Wrap Colored Strips

Wrap and glue the strips of construction paper onto the cardboard hat sides.
Glue Together

Add glue to the inner edge of each circle. Top with matching color hat sides and press together.
Add a Pointer

Cut a small piece of construction paper to make a pointer on the brim of the black hat. Add a dab of glue and attach the pointer to the brim of the black hat.
Glue Hat Tops

Add a little glue to the edges of each small construction paper circle. Add the glued side to the top of the matching color hat. This forms the hat tops. Also, glue on the black circle with the cut chopstick at the top of the black hat.
Punch Out Dots

Punch out as many assorted color construction paper dots as you would like using the hole punch. I used 10 dots in random spots on each hat.
Add the Dots

Put a small squirt of glue where each dot will be placed on the side of each hat. Top the glue with a dot. Continue gluing on the dots until all are on the hats.
Make Feathers

I wanted to make a feather for the side of each hat. I measured and decided they should be about 3 inches long. Roughly draw 11 feathers, then cut them out with the small scissors.
Glue Them!

Add a dab of glue to the center of the under side of each feather. Attach each feather to a hat at a slight angle.
Finished!

Arrange the colored hats around the edge of the cutting board. Place the black spinning hat in the center. Put prizes under each of the colored hats. The game is now complete and ready to be played!
Let’s Play!

Now spin the spinning hat and see what the surprise is under the hat that the pointer points to.
I Am Happy!

My hat game came out just the way I had hoped it would. I put money under the hats as prizes but there could be all kinds of things….a fortune, a piece of jewelry or even a gag gift. Use your imagination! I hope you enjoyed seeing how I made my Spin The Top Hat Game! I know my family will enjoy playing!
