I made two metal signs made out of carbon steel based off the logo for Andor, a Star Wars tv show.

About 6 months ago I made a drawing for the Andor title logo in Autodesk Sketchbook. I'd use a previous version of this logo since I love autosave, to make the cutout for the sign.

Drawing the Cutout

Using the previous drawing I took the back part and hollowed it out to make an inside white space and sized it down to make a square box (image one). I then had to change the letter D in the logo or otherwise the inside part would fall out. I feel my change to the logo still fits the original feel of the logo (image two).

WARNING!

Do not try anything past this point at home! This was done in a secure environment with proper PPE proper training and trained instructors throughout the process. Replicating this project without any of these things will potentially lead to bodily harm. You have been warned.

Formating the Drawing for Plasma Cutting

In Adobe Illustrator provided by the school I used the auto line feature to create a "hair line" around the outside of the logo and the inside of the letters. The black line tells the plasma cutter where to cut the metal. Then finally I sent the files off to cut.

Second Sign

Welding

From the cutouts of the big sign I welded them to the small sign attacking them vertically rather than horizontal. To finish up the small sign I angle grinded down the whole face to give it a shiny surface.
