Sticky Notes Chair

I made a chair out of sticky notes. And it's really low cost! This is for the Make It Fold Architecture Student Contest. (It connects to this contest because you need to fold and bend the sticky notes in some of the steps.) When looking at the instructions for this contest, I got the idea of making something with sticky notes. Then I thought about it for a while and decided to make a large cube out of sticky notes. Halfway through making this project, I decided to change it to a sticky notes chair, as it is a LOT cooler. While making this project, I ran into a few problems. One was that there was gaps between the sticky notes in some places. To fix this, I just added a extra sticky note. You should do the same if you run into this problem. I also ran into the problem that the legs were too flimsy. To fix this, I just added some tape. The last problem I ran into is that I ran out of sticky notes! So, I got some more. But, make sure you have a lot!

Make a line of about 5 sticky notes as shown in the picture. Then attach another sticky note to the note that you added last with the sticky part on it. But, make that one's sticky part face to the bottom of the line, not into it like the other ones you placed (look in the picture). Now, from that note, start building a line down from it. (Use the same amount of squares that you used for the first line -- minus one). Then, start building a line to the right of that (look at the picture). Then, make one more line to close the square (in picture).

Now, it's time to make it 3D! Put a sticky note under one of the squares, and make it stick out of the square (in picture). Do this around the entire square. Just like I said in the intro, if you run into the problem that there are gaps, just add another sticky note. If you look at the picture, you can see my extra sticky notes. Now, tape all the sticky notes on each side together. (Look in the picture -- don't tape the sides together yet!) Now, fold all the sides up. Tape all the corners together. Now, fill the hole in the inside. All you need to do is made about 3 lines down from the top of the gap and then tape them all to the inside of the seat. (Look in picture). Now, make sticky notes going up from the other ones (around the entire square -- look in the picture). Tape the corners.

Now it's time to make the legs! On one corner of the cube, add two sticky notes and tape them together. (In picture). Roll a sticky note into a cylinder. Tape it into the center of the corner you made. (Picture). Do this again for the 3 other corners. Now, build up by adding another two sticky notes around the corners and tape them together, just like you did at the start of this step. Tape the cylinder into it. Do this for all the corners and then do it again, and again once more.

Now you should be able to turn the chair (it should look like a table so far) around and it should stand up on it's own. Now, on one of the corners of the seat, add two sticky notes and tape them together (picture). Then tape sticky notes around until you get to the same spot parallel of the first sticky note (you should definitely look at the picture for this step). Then, make a line of sticky notes. The line should be the same length as the edge of the chair. (Picture). Tape this to close the part you just made. (Picture). Then, make another level on top of the rectangle you just made. (Picture). Use sticky notes to cover the top of the two-level rectangle (picture). You finished! If the chair is wobbly, just add extra tape on the parts that are wobbly. If it's still wobbly after you do that, you could try hot glue. That should work.
