Our two year anniversary just passed and I wanted to make something special for my boyfriend. Knowing that he is a HYOOGE lover of puns (and nerdery), I came up with the idea to make him a "punny" cross stitch.
Having never cross stitched before, this was certainly an adventure. I am in no way an expert (in fact, I don't really know what I'm doing), but I managed to cobble this together... just don't look at the backside. It's uh... in need of love.
I happened to have the supplies on hand. All you need are: thread, needles, cross stitch fabric, a hoop, scissors and a good idea!
I found some great resources online to help me plot out the letters. I used Stitch Point, which has a free interactive tool to help you write out your words and make your own pattern. For the Pi, that was pretty straighforward to design. I tried to center it by counting my stitches and just freehanded it. The top and bottom border I also freehanded, but I looked heavily at Subversive Cross Stitch for design inspiration on that element.
I still need to put it in a frame, but I was so pleased with the result of my first cross stiching project I just had to share it!
All told, this took me about four hours to complete (including learning and finding online help). Now knowing where to look for pattern help, I am confident this could be completed in half the time.
