The Pie Organizer: a 3D Paper-Craft Storage Box & Diary Set
Why keep all the thoughts in one place when we can serve them up in slices? This project is a 3D paper-craft box that disguises itself as a wonderful cherry pie, but opens to reveal four distinct, semi-circular diaries. By using different colors for each "slice," we can organize the life – one for recipes, one for goals, one for gratitude, and one for daily notes.
Supplies
- A4 Paper: For the diary pages.
- printed sheets: Tan for the box and pie printed for diary covers.
- Markers or Paint: 4 distinct colors (e.g., Red, yellow, Blue, Green) to shade the edges of mini diaries.
- Decorations: Red paper, Red pom-poms (cherries), and Red ribbon ( Any other color can be used for decoration).
- Tools: Glue, Scissors, Ruler, Tape ( I used masking tape you can use any tape you like but masking tape allows the paper to stick easily).
Preparing the "Core" (A4 Mini Diaries)
The heart of this project is the paper.
- Take your A4 sheets and cut them into 5.7 inches diameter semi-circles. Ensure they are all uniform in size.
- Make four diaries from these and these will become your four diary "slices."
- Bind the diaries with help of a stapler to create four separate booklets.
Shading the "Filling" (Coloring the Edges)
This is where the "flavor" comes in. To help differentiate the four subjects of your journal:
- Take each of your four mini-diaries.
- Using your markers or paint, shade the curved outer edges of the pages.
- Pro Tip: Use a different color for each (for example: Red for "Ideas," Blue for "Peace," etc.). When the journals are closed, these colors represent the different "fillings" of your pie.
Creating the Protective Crust (Diary Covers)
This step adds the professional "weight" that judges look for.
- The Core: Cut semi-circles from light cardboard. You will need two for each diary.
- Stick both side cardboard and the middle part with the help of a tape.
- The Exterior: Paste your pie-printed sheet onto the outside of the cardboard. This gives the journal its theme immediately.
- The Interior: Paste a plain white sheet on the inside. This hides the cardboard and the edges of the printed sheet, creating a clean, "store-bought" finish.
- Assembly: Glue your page stacks into these covers.
Building the Pie Box
The box serves as the display case.
- Measure the size of the circle with the help of diaries ( the box should be bigger than the diaries)
- Cut the cardboard in a large circle for the base and top and a long, wide strip for the walls.
- Cut the circles exactly in half.
- Glue the strip around the two sides of the box to create the circular box.
- Attach the two halves to the sides of your box using a small paper hinge or tape so they open like doors.
Baking the Details (Decoration)
Finally, we make it look delicious.
- Glue red paper on the top side mimic a traditional red filling.
- Glue the tan colour paper on the base and sides of the box.
- Glue tan strips in a cross-hatch pattern.
- Now fold a strip of tan paper in zig – zag pattern and glue it around the edge of the lids to create the pastry "crimp."
- The Topping: Glue your clusters of red pom-poms (the cherries) onto the lid and attach your ribbons to tie the whole project together.
The Final Step
Close the lids and tie the ribbon to complete your perfect paper pastry. The result is a sophisticated, color-coded journaling system disguised as a beautiful cherry pie.
Instead of one giant, disorganized notebook, this system allows you to compartmentalize your life. The color-coded edges mean you never have to flip through pages to find what you need; you simply grab the "slice" that fits your current mood or task.
