For this project, we worked as a group of three for the Make It Heal challenge. This challenge tasked us with creating a design that can help people be safe from natural disasters. We created an outdoor setting with an underground bunker to help people from tornadoes. Our design includes a livable space that focuses on longevity use and can possibly be placed anywhere.

Supplies

We created our design idea using TinkerCAD. We 3D printed on Bambu Lab P1S, with PLA filament.

We used cardboard for the base, clay for details, to create the actual structure and the trees. We used clay for the small hills and bushes, also making smaller bushes out of pom poms.

CAD Model

For the actual underground part of the bunker, we 3d modeled it in tinkerCAD, creating a rectangle with walls around it and a smaller rectangle which leads from the middle to the entrance, adding walls around the structure and making smaller details like beds, cabinets, stove, fridge, and a sink, we 3d printed it and painted it after, making the walls black and floor brown, once that was done we glued it to the base.

Physical Model

For the first step we cut out a 1ft * 1ft to create the basic shape, adding clay to the top to create hills, we then spray painted it green and yellow to create grass and shading to said grass. We then created bushes out of more clay by creating multiple balls and placing them together before painting them green. For the trees we 3d printed them and colored them green. For the entrance of the bunker we made it out of cardboard, making a long rectangle and folding it to fit around the triangles of the sides, we also added a functional door at the front, with it being able to open and close.

In conclusion, this project was okay, we should've changed the setting maybe to a city or town, where the bunker would be used more, we liked the openable door into the bunker and the smaller bushes we made out of pom poms, another thing we could've done better was making all the bushes from the start from said pom poms.
