Tic Tac Toe Board
We created a tic tac toe board out of a 2"x4" , with a built in marble storage system that holds 8 marbles and has a door. This is an easy to do project and is a very fun project. Attached below is the drawing file of my Tic Tac Toe Board
Supplies
TOOLS USED
- table saw
- miter saw
- drill press
- forester bit
- 5/8" regular drill bit
- 1/8" regular drill bit
- awl
- water based stain
- clear coat
- pencil
- square
- 120,220 grit sand paper
- Calipper
MARTIREALS
- 2"x4"pine board
- 8 marbles(4 of each color)
- 1 #10 screw and washer
Cut 2"x4" Into Square
Find a 2x4 board and measure the dimensions using a caliper to figure out the true dimensions. Use the miter saw to cut the length of the board to the same dimensions of the width of the board. Should be 4 equal sides.
Cut Grid
Once you have your square 2 lines to make a 3x3 grid of perfect squares. Use the Table saw to cut the grid lines. The lines will be the curf of the blade and set the blade height to about .125 inches above the table and cut.
Mark Holes(all Holes in Center of Squares)
Use an awl to mark the center of each square on the grid. These will be where the circles are cut. Press hard with the awl to make a deep enough hole so the drill press will not slip out
Drill Game Holes
Use a 5/8 forstner bit to drill 9 holes using the awl holes as the center. Cut about 1/8" deep. These will be the holes where marbles are played during play
Drill Storage Holes(in End Grain)
Flip the board so end grain is facing up to the drill press. Use the drill press and a. 5/8" regular drill bit and use the press to drill 2, 3 inch deep holes. These holes will be equal distances on the end grain and will store all the 8 marbles. Make sure that they are deep enough to hold 4 marbles each.
Make Door
Rip a 1/8" board from the scrap 2"x4" and then cut it to the length of the tic tac toe board. Find the center of this board and use the 1/8" regular drill bit to cut a hole in it, then do the same on the tic tac toe board. This board will be used to hold the marbles in their hole during storage
Sand
Sand the entire board and door by hand. Start at 120 grit and end at 220 grit. Sand with/in the direction of the grain
Stain
Apply 2 coats of your choice of wood stain I used a water base mahogany stain for mine. Stain all parts lid and square.
Clear Coat
After the stain has sat for 24 hours apply a coat of clear coat to the board to ensure it will be protected and last longer
Assemble
After all parts have dried attach the door to the board using a #10 screw and then toy have a completed Tic Tac Toe Board. Put 4 marbles of one color in one storage hole and 4 more of another color in the other. You are now ready yo play. Good luck!
