Did you ever play Tiddlywinks? You press a little disc with another disc and try to flip it into the target up.
Did you ever make an Origami frog? You press the back of it, and it jumps.
What if you played Tiddlywinks with Origami Frogs?
You’d have Tiddly-Frog!
This is the GREEN EDITION, because I had a few sheets of green cardstock. You can make each Origami Frog (I call them Froggers for the game) a different color
Supplies
- Lightweight Card Stock or Construction Paper (2 sheets Green, 1 sheet Blue), 8 1/2 X 11 (or 9 X 12 inches)
- Glue
- Markers
- Optional--Cardboard for backing
Frogger-Making--The Strips
There are many ways to fold Origami Frogs. To make your Tiddly-Froggers, I'm going to teach the simplest kind, based on the Dollar-Bill style that I fold when I'm leaving a fancy/silly/cute tip at a restaurant. Cut one of the green sheets of card stock or construction paper into four strips 8 1/2 X 2 3/4 (or 9 X 3). Each strip will make one Tiddly-Frogger.
Frogger-Making--Do the Twist
- Fold the top edge to the left to match it with the left edge. Crease it. Unfold it.
- Fold the top edge to the right edge. Crease it. Unfold it.
- Turn the strip over. Fold the top edge down until it matches where the cross-folds reach the side edges. Crease it. Unfold it.
Frogger-Making--Push It
- Turn the strip over. Press in the sides of the horizontal fold, collapsing it. It will look like it's wearing a hoodie. Crease it.
- Fold the upper flaps up. it now looks like Wolverime's headpiece. Crease it.
- Fold the sides of the strip to the center. Crease it.
Leg-Bends and a Nose-Job
- Fold the strip until the end reaches the nose. Crease it.
- Fold the folded part again so the end does a little past the end of the main section. Crease it.
- fold the pointed end down 1/4 inch to make a nose.
Pond and Lily Pad
- For the Pond and the Lily Pad, cut the green sheet and the blue sheet into squares.
- Cut an irregular shape out of the green sheet, leaving at least an inch around the edges.
- From the section you cut out for the pond, cut a lily-pad shape.
Put It Together
- Glue the green sheet onto the blue sheet to make a pond. if you wish to use a cardboard backing for your game, glue the cardboard to the back of the blue sheet.
- Glue the lily pad onto the pond.
Make Your Mark
Using markers, draw nostrils, eyes, and eyelids on each Frogger. Number them if you want, especially if they are all the same color. Print TIDDLY-FROG on the gameboard. If you want to put veins on the lily pad, do it.
Play It!
There are different ways to play Tiddly-Frog
- Basic Tiddly-Frog - Each player takes a shot in turn, leaving their Frogger where it lands. by pressing the back end of the Frogger and releasing it, making the Frogger hop forward. The rounds continue until on Frogger is on the lily pad. That player wins one point. Froggers are replaced on the corners. Play continues until one player has earned ten points.
- Frog Scramble - Everybody starts their Froggers hopping at the same time. First one to get his Frogger on the lily pad wins a point. Ten points wins the game.
- Frog Time Trials - Who can get their Frogger onto the lily pad the fastest? Time them.
- Frog Long Jump - Whose Frogger can jump the farthest? Measure the distance.
