In this instructable, i will show you how to make this colorful and super simple tin can garden! It is very easy to make, and you can also paint the cans with fun designs and colors. These are great, even if you don't have a garden.

Gather Materials

First, wash and rinse the tin cans. They don't have to be spotless, after all, we're going to put dirt and plants in these. You just want to clean the outside so the paint won't get messed up.

Use the painters tape to create a color-block design, or, you can skip the tape and paint it however you want. I used acrylic paint, and i applied about 3 coats of paint on each can.

After you have painted the cans and they are dry, peel off the painter's tape (if using). Be careful when doing this, because if you go too fast or are careless, the paint will peel off along with the tape.

Add the Wire

This step is optional, adding wire is just so you can hang it on something (i made some to hang on the fence around my garden).

First, use the hammer and nail to make at least seven holes in the bottom of the can (one in the middle, six around the edge). These are so that when you water the plants, the water can go through the can instead of staying in the can and drowning the plants (too much water can also cause mold to grow).

To make the holes for the wire, you can use a hammer, or the wire cutters. To use the hammer, just hammer in the nail twice at the top to make the holes. To use the wire cutters, slightly bend them around the can and poke two holes in the top. But be careful, because the wire cutters can be sharp and the holes will be sharp and pointy, so be careful! You can use the hammer to flatten the sharp edges.

Cut a piece of wire about 1 ft. long and put it through the holes.

Plant Your Plants!
