[Work in Progress] Transforming Bookshelf #Inspired by Baloni Wood Works!
Years ago, when i got the opportunity to travel outside my country, for an onsite project i was quite excited. I returned to my native country, not only with extra earnings but also few showcase pieces which i was interested to buy. There were many remained after giving away some to my neighbours, relatives, colleagues and friends. And those lovely gifts has been sleeping inside suitcase, cardboard boxes and whichever location i move to.
I have also been thinking(or were planning in mind before i sleep...and most days it happened) about a showcase pieces. But did not get the confidence to do it, as i have not made anything of that sort earlier. May be during lockdown times, while we increased the load to watch youtube videos i watched many videos on travel, food and some learning across woodwork, automation and lot more.
So with that confidence, gained through watching videos...(:p) and few earlier instructables i tried out i wanna try this Transforming bookshelf(inspired by are baloni work for the rocklerplywoodchallenge) which will fit very apt for the blank wall we have in our TV room/main hall.
Here in this instructable i will narrate how i made this Transforming Bookshelf, for my home (most been planned during my sleep time plan...:D)
Supplies
Wooden boards, either MDF/plywood hold good. Here i have 12x12 inch, 9mm thick plywood pieces
Drill machine
Wooden drill bits(3.2mm for thin screws)
Wood primer/multi-purpose solvent based primer(Pale white primer, for magenta paint)
Synthetic resin based adhesive
Masking tapes
Screws
Hinges(H - 1 inch by W - 3/4 inch)
Stand clip, to fix the centre piece to the wall
Black paint, inner side of the square block
Spray paint - i chose Telemagenta for the salmon pink wall colour
Planning the Wooden Boards
While planning for the wooden boards, earlier i chose MDF boards and purchased it online. But the purchased boards got some edges bent during shipping so i changed to plywood and purchased from nearby timber shop.
I neither have a lathe nor have prior experience in cutting woods using saw blade etc... however, have an idea to try out some time soon. So, Here are the pictures of the labourers from the timber shop who helped in getting the purchased wood, cut into precise width and height. They also help me to safely arrive them at my home, without any damage. I did get some idea and know about their work, while chatting with them of course with social distancing!!
Btw, i planned to make the square pieces for 12 inch by 12 inch as i need a wider and good heighted blocks so that i can place my ipad and watch some movies from sofa placed opposite to the wall, where i plan to fix the bookshelf.

Marking the Position of Adjacent Square Blocks
I segregated the square pieces in 4 numbers(36 pieces to 9 square hollow block) so that further work is easier.
Now, my plan is to stick one square plywood piece on to the another to make a hollow square block.
For that purpose, i placed the plywood piece over the edge of the another to mark the position of the fixture with pencil. This will help us to make neat work.
Stick the First Adjacent Square Piece
To make one piece stick to another, i applied resin adhesive over the marked area and placed the another piece on top of it. To make them stand straight, i arranged few books to the side of the work.
Now, to Make the Second Piece
The same manner, i placed the square piece over the marked area and arranged the books at the sides for support.
For the Top Square Piece
Once the side pieces are completely dried, i placed the square piece on top of both of the adjacent pieces stick earlier. And also i placed few books at the top, for weight.
