In honor of the United States Semiquincentennial, I made this star-spangled, patriotic bracelet and earring set, and decided to share the creative process!

In this tutorial, I will describe how I made the three different bracelets, as well as the sparkly star dangle earrings.

All of the bracelets are made with stretchy bead cord for easy on/off.

For the earrings, I used clip-on earring findings, but normal fishhook style findings would work as well.

To make it easier on everyone, I am referring to the bracelet designs as A, B, and C.

🇺🇸God bless the USA!!🇺🇸

Supplies

For the Earrings-

  1. Two silver star charms
  2. Two silver eyepins
  3. Two blue glass facet beads, 4mm
  4. Two red glass facet beads, 4mm
  5. Two white glass facet beads, 6mm
  6. Two silver earring findings with loops (I used clip-ons)

For Bracelet A-

  1. Silver Star Beads, 6mm
  2. Red, white, and blue glass facet beads, 4mm
  3. Stretchy Bead Cord (I used Powercord .5mm clear)
  4. Super glue for securing the knot

For Bracelet B-

  1. 6/0 Glass seed beads, in red, white, and blue (I used Bead Treasures USA mix from Hobby Lobby)
  2. Silver spacer beads, 2.4mm
  3. American Flag beads, 10x8mm
  4. 3 links of a 2.4 mm jewelry chain
  5. A small silver star charm
  6. Stretchy Bead Cord
  7. Super glue for securing the knot

For Bracelet C-

  1. Silver spacer beads, 2.4mm
  2. Red, white, and blue glass facet beads, 6mm
  3. Gold Letter beads (U,S, and A, of course!), 8mm
  4. Gold Star Beads, 6mm
  5. 4 clear/white 6/0 seed beads, for between the letter beads
  6. American Flag bead, 10x8mm
  7. Stretchy Bead Cord
  8. Super glue for securing the knot

Tools Needed-

  1. Needlenose pliers (Two pairs are helpful)
  2. Wire cutters, for trimming the eyepins
  3. Scissors, for cutting the bead cord

Optional, but highly recommended! - Sewing/leatherworking clips (the little red/clear things- they are invaluable for clamping the end of the bead cord you aren't working with so the beads don't go everywhere. You could also use a small hair barrette or a binder clip.)

The Earrings!

  1. Using the needlenose pliers, open the loop end of the eyepin and thread the star charm onto it. Close the loop.
  2. Thread the red bead onto the eyepin, then the larger white bead, and finally the blue bead.
  3. Carefully wrap the eyepin wire just above the blue bead around one side of the needlenose pliers to make a loop, as illustrated in the sixth picture.
  4. Use the cutters to trim off any excess from the loop. Open the loop again slightly and slide it onto the loop on the earring finding, then close it again.
  5. Try it on, and make small adjustments as needed so that it hangs right.
  6. Repeat for the other earring!

Bracelet a - the Silver Star Bracelet!

  1. Unwind several inches of your bead cord, but don't cut it just yet! Clip a clip or barrette onto the cord, close to the spool, allowing as much as you think you'll need. (This way, you can cut the cord later to the perfect length and you don't end up with a too short or too long piece of cord.)
  2. Start stringing beads onto the cord, and allow them to slide down to touch the front of the clip. For this bracelet, the pattern is: Red, white, blue, silver star, repeat.
  3. Keep repeating the pattern until the bracelet is long enough to fit comfortably around your wrist without being uncomfortably tight or too loose (loose bracelets can get hung on things entirely too easily).
  4. Carefully remove the clip from the spool end, and gently tie the ends with a couple of square knots, then trim both ends of the cord just above the knot.
  5. For extra durability, apply a tiny dab of super glue to the knot to permanently secure it.
  6. I also made a variation of this bracelet using gold star beads instead of silver.

Bracelet B - the Flag Bracelet!

  1. First, for the star dangle charm: Carefully open the third link from the end of the 2.4mm chain with the two pairs of pliers, and gently remove the three links.
  2. Hook the star charm into the open link, and close it.
  3. Unwind several inches of your bead cord, but don't cut it just yet! Clip a clip or barrette onto the cord, close to the spool, allowing as much as you think you'll need.
  4. Start stringing the seed beads onto the cord, and allow them to slide down to touch the front of the clip. For this bracelet, the pattern is: silver spacer bead, red, white, blue, repeat.
  5. After about seven repeats of the pattern, slide the top chain link of the star charm onto the bead cord, followed by a silver spacer bead.
  6. Next thread the American flag bead on, followed as well by a silver spacer bead.
  7. Continue with the pattern until the bracelet is long enough to fit comfortably around your wrist.
  8. Carefully remove the clip from the spool end, and gently tie the ends with a couple of square knots, then trim both ends of the cord just above the knot.
  9. For extra durability, apply a tiny dab of super glue to the knot to permanently secure it.

  1. Unwind several inches of your bead cord, but don't cut it just yet! Clip a clip or barrette onto the cord, close to the spool, allowing as much as you think you'll need.
  2. Start stringing the beads onto the cord, and allow them to slide down to touch the front of the clip. For this bracelet, the pattern is: silver spacer bead, red, silver spacer bead, white, silver spacer bead, blue, repeat.
  3. After two repeats of the pattern, slide a gold star bead onto the cord, followed by a 6/0 clear seed bead.
  4. String the 'U' bead on, followed by another clear seed bead. Next slide on the 'S' bead, a clear seed bead, the 'A' bead, and another clear seed bead. (I didn't use the silver spacer beads between the letter beads because the holes in the letter beads were too big.)
  5. String another gold star on the cord, then a silver spacer bead.
  6. Continue the pattern until the bracelet is large enough to fit comfortably around your wrist.
  7. If you like you can add the American flag, with silver spacer beads on either side, to the end of the pattern before tying it off. You may have to experiment with how many iterations of the pattern you do, depending on the size of your wrist. (My wrists are small so I couldn't do a lot of the repeating pattern.)
  8. Carefully remove the clip from the spool end, and gently tie the ends with a couple of square knots, then trim both ends of the cord just above the knot.
  9. For extra durability, apply a tiny dab of super glue to the knot to permanently secure it.

Enjoy!
