Recycle your old ugly christmas sweaters into something new! Not only does this mask help combat COVID, but it also keeps your face warm during the winter months.
Bonus tip: you can wear it while skiing, snowboarding, and other winter sports to keep your face toasty while still being able to breathe.
Supplies
- an ugly sweater (mine is knitted and I only used the sleeve)
- 8 1/2 in. of 1/8 " elastic
- sewing machine and/or thread and needle
- scissors or a rotary cutter
- chalk or a marker
- a face mask (for size reference)
- Optional: cutting mat
Deciding What Part You Want to Use

This is up to you and ultimately depends on what your sweater looks like. I liked the pattern on the sleeve so I decided to use the fabric in that area.
Cut to Size

I traced about an inch above the perimeter of the mask and cut two of these. The dimensions were 8" by 3 1/2"
Pin Together

Place right sides together and pin the elastic on the inside, so when the right sides are turned out, the elastic is sewn in. The elastic length that I used was 8 1/2", but that can be changed depending on what fits your face.
Sew It All Together
Make sure to leave an opening big enough to turn the fabric right side out. I used a 1/4" seam allowance and back-stitched on the elastic parts.
Finishing Touches

Turn the right sides out and hand sew the opening closed. I used the invisible stitch.
