My 1kW pure sine wave inverter is used to power my living room air conditioner.

Over the past few months it's cooling fan has been making heavy noise and last night it stopped working altogether. Here is how is replaced it and also made a future proof design change.

Opening the Inverter.

4 screws holds the bottom panel in place. Once they are removed the insides of the inverter is accessible.

Here is the tiny fan that cools the unit.

4 volts hold the fan in place. Once removed I cut the power wires at the fan. I will use these to power the replacement. I put the fan grill into storage for a future project.

The New Fan.

This powerful blower fan will provide higher cfm and therefore better cooling. I connected the power wires paying attention to polarity.

Installing the Inverter Back Into Place.

I bolted the inverter back to its spot on the wall and reconnected all the power and control wiring. Next I put a ring of silicone adhesive to stick the new blower fan.

Completion!

Putting the fan carefully in place, the system is no ready for service. Upon powering up, the inverter worked fine and the the fan kept the internal temperatures low!

In the future should I need to replace the fan I won't have to open the inverter again!
