I created a paper form in the shape of a short honeycomb while big enough to imitate the packaging of trinket characters. I had a hexagonal shape in mind, as I love the idea of honeycomb-shaped organization and products that can be stacked. It also reminds me of the Fenty Beauty products, although those are pentagon, some are magnetic and stick together in groups.

Supplies

  1. Fusion 360
  2. Inkscape
  3. Laser Cutter
  4. Cardstock
  5. X-acto Knife
  6. Ruler
  7. Tape

These were my first sketches of what I had in mind. based off honey comb designs, as well as packaging of certain trinket characters.

I based my design on page 23 in the book Structural Packaging Design Boxes. I created my own dimensions to fit the idea of the trinket packaging box while still imitating a honeycomb shape.

Fabrication

I converted my design from Fusion into an SVG file, which I used for Laser cutting. I imported my design and set the settings to manage a cardstock piece of paper.

Finishing

After laser cutting the items, I use a ruler, a pencil, and an X-Acto knife to score the rectangles. I used tape to assemble the paper form. I stuck on the hexagon first and then on the rectangle part. The extra tab on the hexagon didn’t help much; I would either add more of them or scrap it completely.
