Water Prism Rainbow Maker

This is a fun project you can do as a class activity to learn how water can work as a prism and separate the light into colors.

Supplies

For this project you will need:

  1. a plastic container
  2. a small mirror
  3. a strong flashlight
  4. enough water to fill the plastic container
  5. a dark room

Positioning the Mirror

For this step you will need:

  1. the plastic container
  2. the mirror

Place the mirror inside of the container at a 45° angle.

Adding the Water

This step you will need:

  1. the plastic container with the mirror in it
  2. the water

fell the container with water till the mirror is completely covered.

Using the Prism

For this step you will need:

  1. the container with water and the mirror in it
  2. the flashlight
  3. a dark room

Position the container where the mirror is facing a wall. Shine a flashlight onto the mirror until you can see the reflection on the wall, you may have to move the flashlight around some until you see the Rainbow.
