Weaving Basket With Paper Stripes
Having a lot of small stuffs and need storage basket for organising?
What about making your own one!
This is a simple and quick weaving basket which you can make with your children.
Let's get started!
Supplies
4.5m long 12-strands paper roll
scissors
white glue
double sided tape
small pegs
Prepare the Stripes
Split the strands
- Make a 1-2cm slit at the end of the stripe with scissors
- Find a small piece of PP plastic or the leftover paper stripe
- Wedge the PP band to the stipe and pull it to split them
Cut the strips to the following lengths:
27cm x 5 (6 strands)
12cm x 6 (6 strands)
23cm x 7 (6 strands)
8.5cm x 2 (6 strands)
50cm x 2 (6 strands)
All remainders will be split to 2-strands for weaving
Prepare for Weaving
- Put some double sided tape on the table to fix the strands
- Take the 27cm and 12cm stripes
- Place them according to the above picture
Glue the Bottom Strands
- Apply glue to the long strands as shown
- Take two 23cm strands and fix them horizontally
Glue the Top Strands
- Apply glue to the vertical stripes
- Fix the short horizontal stripes on top
Weave the Bottom
- Take two 23cm stripes each time
- Weave alternatively with the glue stripes
- Take another two 23cm stripes and weave alternatively to the adjacent stripes
Glue the Bottom
Apply glue to the edges to fix the stripes
Fold the Stripes Inwards
Fold the stripes inwards, make sure the edges of short stripes are inside the basket
Start Weaving
- Fold the 2-strands in half
- Fix it with small peg
- Weave it in and out
- Extend the stripe with glue if it runs out
- Continue weaving till the suitable height
Edge of the Basket
- Trim the stripes with around 0.8cm margin for fixing the edge stripes
- Take the 2 50cm stripes and glue them as the edge
- Fix the edge with small pegs and leave dry
- Finish~
