Welcoming Buildings

In this project, I decided to make a public building that's inclusive and accessible to everyone - no matter the age, status, gender, disability, etc.. As I collected an understanding of how our surroundings influence ourselves, I learned that there are very specific and effective qualities of design that can completely influence our well-being. I wanted to solve the negative impact that humans in many states/countries have when it comes to poverty/socioeconomic inequality. By creating a safe place for these individuals, I believe that this building can have a positive toll on our health and happiness. This peaceful location is meant to calm and relax each person in the outdoor and indoor properties. I'm hoping that through this building, it could expand to a few buildings in each state or even worldwide to have an effective influence on people's lives.

Educate myself: Learn about the problems in order to make a solution

In this step, I was able to fully understand how I could use design to make the world a better place for everyone. It's important to grasp the psychological impact that design has on humans, as their environment creates their mood every day.

Based on the information I learned, environmental factors can have a big toll on people's mental, physical, and emotional health. As architecture and interior design are constantly impacting our well-being, it's important to change our surroundings positively for everyone. This made me think, "What if there was a safe place for everyone?".

I brainstormed ideas that could possibly become a safe place for everyone. Having a location to rely on is very important in order to collect ourselves through challenges we're consistently facing. Similar to a park or library, this building can be open to the public and allow anyone (of all ages, abilities, and statuses) to relax and regain their composure. I hope that there could be a few locations like this building in each state, or even worldwide, to have the effective influence I believe it will have on people's well-being.
