Wobbly Blobbly
Wobbly Blobbly is a toy you can't knocked down.
I usually try to make things which serve a purpose in someway. Wobbly blobbly is just a bit of amusement with no purpose, other than to entertain. It came about as a extension from making a pen balancing holder a while ago as it reminded me of an inflatable toy I had as a child which when pushed over came back standing. Wobbly Blobbly is made using paper-mache or paper strips laminated over a balloon. Several fishing sinkers, glued in the bottom, cause it to always return upright.
Partially Inflate a Ballon
Partially inflate a balloon to act as a mold
Shape the Balloon
Wrap some sticky tape around the balloon to give it a longer shape. Have the non sticky side of the tape next to the balloon.
Paper Mache
Tear strips of newspaper and stick on shaped balloon with paper glue. Apply multiple layers, overlapping the previous one.
Àllow Paper Mache to Dry
After gluing multiple layers of paper, allow it to dry. This may take a couple of days.
Dried Paper Mache
Check the paper mache is dry. It should be hard and ridged.
Cut Into Two Halves
Cut into two halves and remove the balloon.
Weight to Bottom
Add some weight to the bottom of one of the halves. I glued and tape in 3 lead fishing sinkers.
Glue Back Together
Glue the 2 halves back together and apply some more paper mache strips.
Paint
Once the paper mache has dried, apply paint.
