Wooden Dog Treat Dispenser.
This is a quick and easy way to give your dog treats. (And, you can train your dog to give themselves treats!)
Supplies
Components
- Poplar Board Pieces:
- (2) 4'' x 4' x 1/4''
- (2) 8'' x 4' x 1/4''
- (1) 3/8'' Dowel Rod
- (1) 2'' Screw
- (1) Rubber band
Tools
- Utility Knife
- Jigsaw
- Sand Paper
- Carpenter Square
- Wood glue
- Clamps
- Drill
- Screwdriver
Make Base Box
Cut the 8'' x 4' board into 4 pieces.
Cut each boards 10''h X 5''w.
Glue only 3 pieces together to make almost a full box.
Keep last piece for step 7.
Drill Holes for Dowel.
Drill 2 holes across from each other on the base box.
I used a 1/2'' drill bit for the size of the holes.
Drill the holes 5'' down from the top of the base box.
(do not drill 2 holes in one board I accidentally did that)
Make Smaller Box (Chute)
Cut the 4'' x 4' board into 4 pieces.
Cut each board 7''h X 4''w.
Glue all 4 pieces together.
DO NOT put it in the base box yet.
Install Handle and Treat Dispenser Flap
Cut 2 pieces of wood 4'' x 3 1/2''.
Cut dowel 10'' long.
Sand top of dowel flat.
Put dowel in holes.
Glue the 2, 4'' x 3 1/2'' pieces of wood on the dowel. One piece in the box and one on the dowel to the left of the base box.
Gluing Chute In
Glue the chute on the top of base box.
Make sure the chute is touching the flap.
Drilling the Srcew
Drill the screw 2'' from the front and 2'' from the top.
Drill the screw through the base box then stop.
Hold a rubber band and make sure the screw goes through the middle of the rubber band, keep screwing until the screw enters the inside of the chute.
Now, you should have a rubber band hanging from the screw.
Glue a hook to the bottom of the chute flap in the box.
Once the hook is sturdy then put the rubber band on the hook.
Last Piece of Base Box
From step one, take the remaining base box side and cut a 4'' x 4'' opening, 2'' from the bottom of the box.
Then glue it on.
Ramp
Sand the bottom of the opening of the base box.
Then cut a 4'' x 3 1/2'' ramp. Make sure the chute flap and the ramp are touching or close enough for the treats to come out. Then glue the ramp.
Tape (oPTIONAL)
If you are having trouble and the treats are getting stuck in the chute flap add some tape to make it more slippery.
