i will show you the best way to set up a safe and friendly vivarium for your snake
Step 1 Lighting
![DSCN1153.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/F9E/VSTC/I2XIEHYT/F9EVSTCI2XIEHYT.jpg&filename=DSCN1153.JPG)
![DSCN1143.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/F38/3FJX/I2XIEHY5/F383FJXI2XIEHY5.jpg&filename=DSCN1143.JPG)
first of you are going to need a light bulb to be fitted to act as a daylight for the snakes. i would strongly advise buying a light guard as i have had problems where i come home after work and i find the snake warped around the light bulb burning and damaging his scales.
Step 2 Heat
![DSCN1142.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/F5Z/GTKP/I2XIEHV7/F5ZGTKPI2XIEHV7.jpg&filename=DSCN1142.JPG)
then you are going to need to add something to raise the temperature of the viv. A lot of people put heat mates on the floor of the viv but that can burn the bottom and be very dangerous for snakes. i would use a heat lamp shown in the picture above as it is not only more efficient but a lot more safe.you will then need to add a lamp guard for protection of the snake just like the light bulb on the previous step .
Step 3 Micro Climate
![DSCN1195.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FQU/LL63/I2XIER7G/FQULL63I2XIER7G.jpg&filename=DSCN1195.JPG)
then you are going to need to add a micro climate.(a micro climate is a device that will alter the temperature in you viv to your required height you want via being connected to the heat lamp) this is a must during mating season
Step 4 Double Chek
![DSCN1141.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FID/93I1/I2XIEH9K/FID93I1I2XIEH9K.jpg&filename=DSCN1141.JPG)
once you have installed the micro climate i will then ad a thermometer to double check it all works.
Step 5 Bedding
![DSCN1156.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FOL/CZHA/I2X6SCKG/FOLCZHAI2X6SCKG.jpg&filename=DSCN1156.JPG)
then i would add bedding to the viv for the snake to feel like it is in a more natural environment and it will also lower the stress levels of your animal. i add bark chippings to my viv as i have a spotted python in which there natural habitat are bark chippings.some snakes have sand or ever straw it all depends on the type of snake you have
Step 6 Hides
![DSCN1158.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FPZ/Y96Z/I2XIEI60/FPZY96ZI2XIEI60.jpg&filename=DSCN1158.JPG)
a lot of snakes in the wild will live out most of there lives hiding in dark places this is why i add wood corks to my viv so the snake has a place of its personal space (remember or top priority is to make the snake feel as it is in a natural environment so it can live a long and healthy life)
Step 7 Placing
![DSCN1161.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FV2/HVJ5/I2XIEIN5/FV2HVJ5I2XIEIN5.jpg&filename=DSCN1161.JPG)
i place two different hiding spots at both ends of the viv one directly under the heat lamp (hot spot) and one at the other end (cold spot)
Step 8 Water
![DSCN1163.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FYI/Z3WR/I2XIEK0E/FYIZ3WRI2XIEK0E.jpg&filename=DSCN1163.JPG)
![DSCN1162.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FRE/7F4H/I2XIEJ5A/FRE7F4HI2XIEJ5A.jpg&filename=DSCN1162.JPG)
![DSCN1176.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FW5/RAQA/I2XIEO9J/FW5RAQAI2XIEO9J.jpg&filename=DSCN1176.JPG)
water bowl you can purchase these from most if not all reptile shops as this is a must. its obvious why you need this so i will just go on to the next step
Step 9 Ivy
![DSCN1165.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FNH/CI2K/I2XIEKRH/FNHCI2KI2XIEKRH.jpg&filename=DSCN1165.JPG)
here is a picture of the ivy i use please do not use real ivy as this can kill the snake .a lot of people do use real ivy and i advise you not to no mater what.
Step Ten Adding Ivy
![DSCN1175.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FT2/NITK/I2XIEO9F/FT2NITKI2XIEO9F.jpg&filename=DSCN1175.JPG)
![DSCN1174.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/F52/ZFWG/I2XIEO2S/F52ZFWGI2XIEO2S.jpg&filename=DSCN1174.JPG)
![DSCN1173.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FNP/2TJQ/I2XIENTB/FNP2TJQI2XIENTB.jpg&filename=DSCN1173.JPG)
i add the ivy to the back like so in the image above very straight forward
Step 11 Security
![DSCN1182.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/F7G/WFBO/I2XIEP6O/F7GWFBOI2XIEP6O.jpg&filename=DSCN1182.JPG)
then add glass and lock and key for security reason.
Step 12 the Snakes
![DSCN1181.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/F44/3LQ7/I2XIEOYV/F443LQ7I2XIEOYV.jpg&filename=DSCN1181.JPG)
![DSCN1177.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FLS/60BY/I2XIEOCE/FLS60BYI2XIEOCE.jpg&filename=DSCN1177.JPG)
![DSCN1180.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FB9/AN06/I2XIEOQF/FB9AN06I2XIEOQF.jpg&filename=DSCN1180.JPG)
![DSCN1187.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FKJ/OK0T/I2XIEPT7/FKJOK0TI2XIEPT7.jpg&filename=DSCN1187.JPG)
then add the snakes to there new home and let them enjoy
![DSCN1171.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FY8/N6SH/I2XIEMQ3/FY8N6SHI2XIEMQ3.jpg&filename=DSCN1171.JPG)
